Lana Ferguson, author of The Nanny and The Fake Mate, is allegedly a former reylo fanfic writer who was previously ousted from the fandom for racist depictions of Finn.

Accusations of Lana being Kylotrashforever were made on Twitter with users showing side by side excerpts of Lana’s book The Nanny against KTF’s fic I’ve Got You (under my skin).

In these fanfics, Finn is written as sexually aggressive toward Rey and oblivious to her obvious discomfort. This is known in history as the ‘Black Peril’ as well as ‘The Brute Caricature’ in literature.

The brute caricature portrays black men as innately savage, animalistic, destructive, and criminal — deserving punishment, maybe death. This brute is a fiend, a sociopath, an anti-social menace. Black brutes are depicted as hideous, terrifying predators who target helpless victims, especially white women.

This idea that Black men were an inherent threat to white women due to their ‘sexually aggressive’ nature is one that posed a direct threat to the lives of Black men throughout history.

When called out on the utilization of this trope, kylotrashforever even went so far as to state that Finn was categorized this way for her own ‘self satisfaction’. The excuse is that the fic is a Beauty and the Beast retelling and ‘someone’s gotta be Gaston’. As a commenter stated on the fic- Gaston wasn’t even in the original fairytale, but a character added by Disney. Therefore, no one needed to be Gaston.

There are also additional criticisms being lobbied at the author regarding a discord prompt pertaining to ‘erections in the Holocaust museum.’
